Scientific Investigation — Reflection 1. What physical, social and intellectual characteristics might students develop were they to replicate your scientific investigation? Identify the year level for which the investigation is most appropriate, and the skills and understandings that can be developed by it. Link these with Australian Curriculum: Science content descriptions. If students were to replicate my scientific investigation, they could develop patience as the experiment involves checking it every 15 minutes for an hour. If completing multiple trials, students can develop dedication considering it may take most of a day to complete these trials. Furthermore, this experiment can allow students to become more observant and organised as it requires accuracy and bowls can be easily mixed up. Bowls with salt and sugar can be easily confused because they look so similar, and when pouring the melted liquid into measuring cups, it is important to remember what cup belongs to each of the bowls. This experiment would be suitable for younger grades, in particular Year 3. Year 3 is most appropriate for this experiment because of the science content descriptions within the Australian Curriculum. In the Australian Curriculum, it states that in Year 3, children should understand that â€Å"a change of state between solid and liquid can be caused by adding or removing heat† (ACSSU044).
